Julius Caesar

Dates: 19.3.2009 to 28.3.2009. In an era when the relative values of republicanism and monarchism are regularly debated, what better play to stage than Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. What a fantastic story Eastenders eat your heart out! An Emperor (would be monarch?) is plotted against by a group of conspiring senators, who cajole his close friend into joining their ranks. Their aim is clear to assassinate the Emperor - but their motives are less so. Is the act for Rome or for their own purposes? This productionwill be a hard hitting, powerful version of the play, which will be true to Shakespeare but which a contemporary audience will be able to relate to. Remember "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears", "Et tu Brute", and "Beware the Ides of March"? Well this is the play.

Freeze Frame

Dates: 1.1.2009 to 31.12.2009. To coincide with International Polar Year, the National Maritime Museum displays some of the earliest photographs of the Arctic, its landscape and people, in a new temporary exhibition in the Queen's House. Freeze Frame will showcase a selection of prints taken from the Museum's world-class historic photographs collection. The exhibition will look at two expeditions to the Arctic under Captain Edward Inglefield in 1854, and Captain George Nares in 1875-76. Both expeditions used photographic processes that were in their infancy, having been announced to the public only a few years before. Both processes involved a significant amount of bulky equipment and chemicals in order to develop the negatives. However, the technique used by Nares had a shorter exposure time allowing more photographs of the expedition activities to be recorded.

They have recently streamlined their set-up to become a four-piece folk'n'roll band, living in each others' basements deep underground with rats and umph-gah. They write songs about swimming in dirty water and use country instruments such as double-bass, banjo, dobro, acoustic guitar, piano and washboard. They all like to sing.

Dates: 19.2.2009. Fresh back from over 100 shows in the USA (with his incongruous gender fuckery and sharp, satirical wit intact) La JohnJoseph turns an absurd and affectionate gaze on his adopted home town of NYC to tell a trannytastic trans-Atlantic tale of sex, drugs and high heels, in the world's favourite city. Featuring musical numbers by everyone from Patti Smith to Hot Peaches, via Judy Garland, the show is a collage of New York anthems interspersed with lyrical musings on art, love, and financial ruin in the city that never sleeps.

Mayhem ensues when the Kerwood brothers try to extricate themselves from some very tricky situations - it's all classic Cooney farce (who can forget Run For Your Wife and it's sequel Caught in the Net which we did in 2006) - Kosovan refugees, a dead body and the formidable Mrs. Potter from the adoption agency - well, you have to see it now, don't you.

Fall of the Peacock Throne

Dates: 5.3.2009 to 28.3.2009. This is the story of the 1953 CIA led coup in Iran, a major cause of the so-called war on terror, when fledging Iranian democracy was destroyed in favour of British oil interests and US cold war strategy. Intimate in its design and execution, but epic in reach, it tells one of the most remarkable yet little known stories of the last century, tackling issues of conscience, empire, freedom, and power. This is a story everyone should know, whose timeless echoes thunder in our ears, demanding to be heard. Wildbird are a new contemporary performance and multi arts company from Moray in the north east of Scotland. The artistic team was originally brought together to work on National Theatre of Scotland's Crucible and Macbeth projects and formed Wildbird in 2006. Fall of the Peacock Throne is our second full length Drama production and we are currently also working on films, theatre, sound installation events, and community projects.

Bjorn Veno: Chapter II and III

Dates: 13.2.2009 to 15.3.2009. The works are tinted with a fictional impression due to the combination of high-end production and incongruous elements, and yet a sincere and unsettling sense of loss, tension and despair transpires. Often presenting the scenes of his 'fictional autobiographies' in places and settings which are personal to him - from his ancestors' Norwegian farmland to his various childhood homes - Veno uses 'automated performance' as a way to access his subconscious. In 'Paradigm', step into the space between childhood fantasy and adult suffering, revisiting the houses in which he once lived and now negotiating his response with the physical language of the body. Somewhere between a refuge and an adventure, this return into the past is inevitably laced with melancholia and yet we discover him, with a feeling of unease and empathy, as an adult desperately trying to find meaning to his own expectations of what it is to be a man. Introducing an additional character in the 'Behold' series, casted are family members (and often female members who are more likely to understand his predicament) in order to portray his scenes of despair, and simultaneously initiates a sincere dialogue throughout these complex relationships. The figure of the 'woman' also represents a new question mark around his understanding of his own identity. The role of women having become increasingly blurred in our current society, has lead him to question the foundations of his irrational fear of them - which he believes may result in a loss of his status as a man.
