Untitled + Ichi + Is it Me

Dates: 17.4.2009 to 18.4.2009. A triple bill of work by promising young artists begins with Untitled, choreographed and performed by French hip hop artist Mickael 'Marso' Riviere with dancer Navala Chaudri. The duet, which fuses lithe and lyrical choreography with elements of capoeira and hip hop, is set to live tabla and bansuri (flute) music by Jason Kalidas and received audience acclaim when presented in its early stages at British Dance Edition 2008 and The Place's 2007 Touch Wood season. Saiko Kino's Ichi, commissioned for the 2008 Place Prize, is a haunting duet inspired by a traditional Japanese ghost story. Contrasting effects of light and darkness, along with atmospheric live music for violin, cello and percussion, drive a narrative which ends in torment for a lonely prisoner. In Is It Me by Wayne Sables, three men on individual journeys gradually become aware of one another, finding solace and comfort in each other's presence in the aftermath of relationship breakdown.
