Dates: 20.4.2009. Much has been made of Ayo's dual heritage and being semi-raised in Europe certainly could help this fine artist garner a potentially global following. Perhaps for her ICA debut it's best to focus on the strength of the music however which is after all, what will be on offer at this intimate London showcase. Part-acoustic, part-electric, part-gospel, part-juju music, part-folk and at times reminiscent of greats such as Erykah Badu, Donny Hathaway and Joan Baez, Ayo is part of a new line in female singer songwriters - as with Nneka - who root themselves in mainland Europe but have genuinely worldwide appeal. Ayo also has American pedigree having recorded and performed in New York alongside Cody Chesnutt amongst others.
